Welcome back to another exciting SA Athletic League season! We can’t wait to see our athletes, officials, volunteers and supporters back on the track.

The 2026/27 season launches at Marion on 11 October and with the 140th Bay Sheffield as a major highlight of this season it is going to be big!

A reminder that when early bird closes you will still be able enter for 2 days but the price will increase by $5 per race for open races and $2 per race for junior races.

2026/2027 RULES OF COMPETITION

The Rules of Competition for the upcoming season have now been published on our website.

There have been some updates including:

  • Target times have been updated for the 300m Open Men and Women
  • Handicap Limits for the Bay Sheffield have been reviewed and limits will now also apply for over 35 races.
  • Discretionary lifts for participation have been removed. Thanks to Westpac, we are introducing an open sprint series which will be weighted towards smaller and regional carnivals. See below for more details!
  • Penalty Free December and when it applies
  • Bay Sheffield and Camden handicaps will now have the same review and appeal processes as other meets. There will no longer be a panel review

SERIES

Plan your season and get on board with our age category series! With cash, honour and trophies on the line, make sure you keep track of where you can earn your points and stay at the top of the leaderboard! If you haven’t travelled to some of regional meets lock them in this season to pick up double points in our Under 18, Over 35 and Open series races.

 

BLOCKS AND SPIKES

If you need blocks or replacement spikes during the season we can help you!

Spikes are $15 each and will be available from the colours tent.

Blocks can be ordered via the SAAL office at very competitive prices. Please email to order admin@saal.org.au and we can bring them to the next meet. Prices include gst and delivery to SAAL Meet.

BAY SHEFFIELD HALL OF FAME

Nominations are being invited for consideration for the Bay Sheffield Hall of Fame.

If you know someone who meets the published eligibility criteria, please send us their details and supporting information by close of business on Friday 9 October.

All nominations will be reviewed by the Bay Sheffield Hall of Fame Subcommittee and assessed against the criteria published on the Bay Sheffield website. Any inductees selected in accordance with the policy will be announced at this year’s Bay Sheffield Breakfast on 28 December.

A BIG and friendly reminder for the season…..

Please ensure you notify the Chief Steward if you think you are not able to run to the best of your ability BEFORE your race. Examples may include a heavy day prior at a school sports day, late night the night before, just not feeling your best etc.
